thinkRF Introduces Hands-Free Drive Testing with SXMGO – No RF Engineers Required
With SXMGO, mobile drive testing becomes a background process – your team drives, SXMGO collects autonomously, and real-time spectrum insights stream directly to the SXM Dashboard
Mobile drive testing has long been one of the most resource-intensive activities in spectrum intelligence. Traditional drive test workflows require dedicated RF engineers, manual equipment configuration before every survey, and hours of data processing afterward. The result is a process that is expensive to run, difficult to scale, and slow to deliver insights.
thinkRF, a leader in spectrum intelligence, today announced that with the launch of SXMGO, mobile drive testing becomes hands-free. Mount SXMGO in a vehicle, power it on, and the device autonomously scans, demodulates, and streams real-time spectrum intelligence to the SXM Dashboard while the team continues with their regular work. No programming. No post-processing. No dedicated RF engineer is required behind the wheel.
This represents a fundamental shift in how mobile spectrum data is collected. Instead of organizing dedicated drive test campaigns with specialist staff and equipment, organizations can now turn any vehicle journey into a productive spectrum survey – with no impact on the team’s other priorities.
How Hands-Free Drive Testing Works
SXMGO is a portable SXM node that performs autonomous blind scanning across the full FR1 spectrum (9 kHz to 8 GHz). Once mounted in a vehicle and powered on, SXMGO automatically detects and demodulates all 3GPP transmissions, georeferences every measurement via integrated GNSS, and streams the data continuously to the SXM cloud over LTE backhaul. Insights are available in real-time on the SXM Dashboard from the moment the survey begins.
Practical Applications
- Spectrum regulators conducting routine field visits while collecting nationwide ground-truth data (real-world spectrum data collected directly from the field) in the background
- Mobile network operators benchmarking coverage and performance during normal operational driving
- Private network operators validating outdoor deployments without dedicated drive test engineers
- Defense and intelligence teams conducting persistent mobile RF collection across wide areas
In each scenario, SXMGO eliminates the operational overhead that has historically limited how often, how widely, and how cost-effectively mobile spectrum data can be collected.
